Why a BSc in Tourism?
The continued growth of the tourism industry worldwide is placing increasingly sophisticated demands on management at virtually every level of tourism-oriented businesses, calling for professional and academic qualifications which are viable in an increasingly competitive international setting.
The HTW BSc in Tourism, as a Swiss federally approved and recognized degree program in conformity with the Declaration of Bologna, provides access to the majority of Master’s programs in Tourism on offer at international universities.
Details of the BSc program
Structure of the Program
Full-time degree program of 3 years’ duration, comprising 6 semesters of study for a total of 180 ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) credits reflecting a total student workload of 5,400 hours (including Bachelor’s thesis) equalling approximately the 90 US academic credits awarded for the 2nd, 3rd and 4th year of a Bachelor program in the US.
During the first two semesters, general international business administration subjects and issues are dealt with, whereas semesters three through six are dedicated to equally international tourism-related subjects and the chosen major.

The HTW Chur BSc in Tourism program is designed to appeal to individuals from around the world who are interested in pursuing a comprehensive qualification in tourism which dynamically combines theory with practice, in a country associated with excellence in education, a profound depth of historicity in tourism, and a uniquely attractive environment.
Entry Requirements
- Prospective students with one of the following diplomas or school certificates will be admitted without an entry test: Swiss Matura, German Abitur, French Baccalauréat, UK A-Levels (3), Russian Certificate of Secondary Complete General Education, US High School Diploma, or equivalent diploma of secondary education fulfilling university admission requirements in the country where secondary education was completed
- Twelve month’s documented work experience in a commercial or tourism business
- Good knowledge of English, both spoken and written. If the applicant is a non-native speaker of English, his or her English language ability must be documented by having successfully completed a TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) examination with a minimum of 600 points (paper-based test), a Cambridge Advanced Certificate with Grade C, scores of 6.0 in the individual core sections of the IELTS (International English Language Testing System), or an equivalent proof of English Language ability.
Please note: Each application is evaluated on its own merit. In exceptional cases, a given entry requirement as specified above may be waived.
Degree Program Costs
Students who have had a minimum of 3 years residency in Switzerland or Liechtenstein prior to the start of the degree program:
Tuition per semester: CHF 960.-
Application fee: CHF 300.-
Students from EU and EFTA Countries:
Tuition per semester: CHF 1'900.-
Application fee: CHF 300.-
Students from non-EU and non-EFTA countries:
Tuition per semester: CHF 10'000.-
Application fee: CHF 3'000.-
The Application Deposit of CHF 3,000.00 covers the following:
- Application Fee of CHF 300.00 (non-refundable)
- Security fee of CHF 2,700.00 to cover the standard security requirement of the Swiss immigration authorities and visa fees as applicable, and the semester security fee of the school and any bank transfer fees.
This latter portion of the Application Deposit is refundable minus afore-mentioned fees upon the student's either discontinuing his or her studies subject to discussion with the school, or upon conclusion of his or her program of studies.
