Development in the Alpine region
Overview

Overview

In the Alpine region, as in the exemplary region of Graubünden, settlement structures have developed in a decentralized manner due to the natural valleys. Influenced by key sectors such as tourism, construction and the energy industry, economic, working, leisure and cultural areas of varying degrees of interconnectedness have emerged. The Department of Development in the Alpine Region is concerned with the development of these areas and the associated complex problems. This requires holistic approaches and solutions that cannot be dealt with by one subject area alone. For this reason, the organizational units of the thematic focus Development in the Alpine Region combine their perspectives and core competencies in an interdisciplinary manner in the four main research areas of Construction in the Alpine Region, Settlement Development, Tourism Development and Economic Policy, thus contributing to a better understanding and further development of the Alpine region, which is heavily influenced by tourism. This takes into account sustainable development, the economic, ecological and socio-cultural environment and their interactions as well as the requirements in connection with digitalization.
